About this book

Book Summary

After Bourne is ambushed and nearly killed while in Indonesia, he fakes his death to take on a new identity and mission - to find out who is trying to assassinate him. In the process, Bourne begins to question who he really is and what he would become if he no longer carried the Bourne identity. Across the globe, an American passenger airliner is shot down over Egypt - apparently by an Iranian missile - leaving the world wondering if it was an accident or an act of aggression. A massive global team lead by Soraya Moore is assembled to investigate the attack before the situation escalates.

When Bourne's search for his would-be assassin intersects with Soraya's search for the group behind the airplane bombing, Bourne is thrust into a race to prevent a new world war. But it may already be too late.

Media Reviews

[U]nfortunately, Lustbader's Bourne seems wimpy at times, and then suddenly develops superhuman powers. Add messy dialogue and a silly resolution and you have a marginal read at best." - Booklist

The Bourne Deception
The setting of the story starts in an island in Indonesia named Bali. The main character, Jason Bourne, is on a retreat with a friend of his called Moira. The action starts when Bourne was ambushed and was nearly killed by his enemy and former colleague. Arkadin shot him right in the chest in the position of the heart. Because his heart had an awkward shape, Bourne survived it and decided to hide it. He was determined to catch his assassin.
The mission gets more complex as an American airliner was shot down by an Iranian missile. Both missions intersect and the problem gets bigger. Bourne now had to prevent a new world war and fast.
The author of this story, in my opinion, has done a good job in describing the characters and moving the plot accordingly. Although he has written many books, he still keeps the spirit of writing moving.
The action thriller contains real-like believable characters and real-life possibilities. The characters are also three dimensional.
The only challenge in reading this book is that it has many characters with unfamiliar names the reader could find hard to remember. Secondly, the reader has to resist the urge of skipping pages to see what happens at the end. First the conflict of a part is reached and the you will have go through another part before you get to the end of it. This way, the reader could forget the last thing that happened and will have to go back to recall it.
I would recommend this to a friend of mine if he likes reading and has a good memory and I would give it 4 stars for its amazing action.

This book is wordy and boring. Bourne does far too much soul searching. He is wimpy, but then he'll have a jolt of power similar to neo's from The Matrix. Unfortunately the action in this book is scarce and sometimes poorly described. Lustbader uses words like "the man" or "the woman" too much leaving room for confusion. its called the BOURNE deception though he plays a much lesser role than his mercenary girl friend due to an injury that happened early in the book. It is the most boring Bourne book made and I wont be recommending it any time soon. The story takes too long to come together and is accented by sloppy dialog which is hard to follow. and because the foreign names sound far to familiar the story is hard to follow as well. I find this book to be a disgrace of the coolest spy science bond.
